The oval face and long nose are of the type that are associated with the Southern Xiangtangshan cave site. There is a small seated Buddha in the crown that identifies this head as that of the Avalokitesvara. The front of the face is damaged, and there are signs of rather extensive repair on the forehead, nose, and chinand on the lower part of the crown.
